The Power of Pain
Rich’s current entrepreneurial career path began after a string four spine operations over a three year period. Soon after the final surgery, he wrote the book The Power of Pain, a motivational memoir written especially for those in the financial services community. He then founded Rich DeSalvo Consulting and hasn’t looked back. While on disability, he began putting pen to paper of his thoughts, concerns and wishes. What began as a therapeutic exercise turned into a passion; then into a manuscript; and now a published book.
Excerpt from The Power of Pain
Let’s not measure our lives in years or new toys, but in millions upon millions of wonderful moments. Think of this as running water down your face in the shower. The temperature is just right as it splashes down the base of your neck down your back side. You feel as if you can stand there all day as your eyes are shut. If you could look close enough you would see that wonderful flow of water is not a continual flow at all, but many droplets of water coming together to make a “flow” of water. My analogy works the same in our lives. The moments come at us so quickly, as you focus on one moment, it is already the past. We have all heard the expression, “go with the flow.” I hope now this phrase has new meaning, as I ask you to think of the “flow” as a meld of many moments blending together. It is that combination, the blending of your moments, that comprise your existence.
